Can – এর ব্যবহার :
“Can” is one of the most commonly used modal verbs in English. It can be used to express ability or opportunity, to request or offer permission, and to show possibility or impossibility.
(Can) এটি সামর্থ্যকে বুঝায়। অর্থ (করতে, যেতে, খেতে ইত্যাদি) পারি
Examples:
I can ride a horse. ability
We can stay with my brother when we are in Paris. opportunity
She cannot stay out after 10 PM. permission
Can you hand me the stapler? request
Any child can grow up to be president. Possibility
Can দিয়ে Informal request (অর্থাৎ লৌকিকতা বর্জিত বা ঘরোয়া আলোচনায় বলা কথা) বোঝানো যায়।

Rob can speak English fluently (রব অনর্গল ইংরেজী বলতে পারে)

Could
“Could” is used to express possibility or past ability as well as to make suggestions and requests. “Could” is also commonly used in conditional sentences as the conditional form of “can.”
Can এর past form হল Could – এটি অতীতে সামর্থ বুঝায়। অর্থ (করতে, যেতে, খেতে ইত্যাদি) পারতাম।
Examples:
Extreme rain could cause the river to flood the city. possibility
Nancy could ski like a pro by the age of 11. past ability
You could see a movie or go out to dinner. suggestion
Could I use your computer to email my boss? request
We could go on the trip if I didn’t have to work this weekend. Conditional
Could – এর ব্যবহার :
Ability (সামর্থ্য. in the past
এটি Past Ability বা অতীত সামর্থ বোঝাতে ব্যবহার করা যায়।
I could run fast (when I was young) (আমি খুব দ্রুত দৌড়াতে পারতাম)
I could sing song (আমি গান গাইতে পারতাম)
When your grandmother was young she could dance very well. –( যখন তোমার দাদীমা যুবতী ছিলেন তিনি খুব ভাল নাচতে পারতেন)
অতীতে কোনো কাজ করার সামর্থ্য ছিল কিন্তু করা হয়নি—
You could have done the work
I could have beaten you
Suggestion বা পরামর্শ
এটি Suggestion বা পরামর্শ দিতেও ব্যবহার করা যায়।
যেমন: You could buy a new car. – তুমি নতুন একটি গাড়ি কিনতে পারতে।
সম্ভাবনা
এটি possibility বা সম্ভাবনা বোঝাতেও ব্যবহার করা যায়।
Rasel isn’t home yet, he could still be working – রাসেল এখনও বাড়ি ফেরেনি, সে সম্ভবত এখনও কাজ করছে।
It could get very hot in Dhaka (ঢাকায় খুব গরম পরতেও পারে)

I could go to London (next week) (আমি আগামী সপ্তাহে লন্ডন যেতেও পারি)
কাল্পনিক
এটি কাল্পনিক চাওয়া বোঝাতেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন: আপনি বান্দরবনে গেলেন। সবুজ পাহাড়ের মাঝের স্নিগ্ধ গ্রামে গিয়ে আপনি চেচিয়ে উঠলেন – I could stay here for my life. – আমি এখানে সারা জীবন থেকে যেতে পারব।
Polite request ভদ্রোচিত অনুরোধ
এটি Polite request বা বিনয়ের সাথে অনুরোধ করতেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Could you give me a glass of water? – এক গ্লাস পানি দিতে পারবেন/দেবেন?
Could you give me a pen? (আপনি কি আমাকে একটা কলম দিতে পারবেন ?)
Could you wait for me? (আপনি কি আমার জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে পারবেন ?)
