সরকারি কর্তৃপক্ষতৎপর হলে অতিরিক্ত মুনাফালোভী ব্যবসায়ীদের লোভের রাশ যে টানা সম্ভব, তার একটা দৃষ্টান্ত দেখা গেল চট্টগ্রামের খাতুনগঞ্জের পাইকারি বাজারে।
If the government authorities take active initiative, the uncontrolled propensity by traders to make wide profits can be reined in. This was evident in the wholesale market at Khatunganj, Chittagong, recently.
ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালত সেখানে অভিযান চালানোর এক দিন পরেই চিনির পাইকারি মূল্য কেজিপ্রতি আট টাকা কমে গেছে। তার ফলে খুচরা বাজারেও দাম কমেছে কেজিপ্রতি তিন টাকা।
A day after the mobile court launched a drive there, the price of sugar fell by Tk 8 per kg. As a result, sugar prices fell by Tk 3 per kg in the retail market.

The drive carried out by the mobile court of the Chittagong district administration, uncovered a serious scam by a certain company, Mir Ahmed Sowdagar Traders.
It was purchasing sugar at Tk 46 per kg and selling it for Tk 58 per kg. Making Tk 12 profit per kg is certainly unethical, by any standards.

The company was fined Tk 20 lakh and the mobile court fixed the price of sugar at Tk 50 per kg, and the traders adhered to this price at Khatunganj.
তবে এই নির্দেশনা তাঁরা কত দিন মেনে চলবেন সেটাই প্রশ্ন।
But the question is, how long will they comply?

Those with the tendency to hike prices unreasonably, will always seek the chance to do so.

They will jump at the chance if they see any laxity on the part of the authorities.
তাই প্রয়োজন বাজারের ওপর নিয়মিত নজরদারি অব্যাহত রাখা।
So the market must be monitored regularly.
