জাতির ৪৬ বছরে পদার্পন
Much achieved, much yet to be
অনেক কিছু অর্জিত হয়েছে , আবার অনেক কিছু অর্জন করতে হবে

As we step into our 46th year of independence and celebrate our freedom, we bow our heads to all the freedom fighters known and unknown, who put up spontaneous resistance to the dastardly Pakistani forces not knowing what lay ahead.
স্বাধীনতার ৪৬ বছরে পদার্পন ও স্বাধীনতা দিবস উদযাপনের এই দিনে আমরা বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা জানায় সেই সকল জানা অজানা বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের যারা কাপুরুষ পাকিস্তানি হানাদানার বাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে জীবনের তোয়াক্কা না করে দুর্ববার প্রতিরোধ গড়ে তুলেছিল।

We recall the leadership of the Father of The Nation whose clarion call (তেজস্বী ভাষণ) on 7th March coagulated(জমায়েত/ জনসমাবেশ ) the people, and also his able lieutenants under whose direction the nascent(নবীন, ) nation was guided through the nine-month long war.
আমরা স্মরণ করি জাতির পিতার বলিষ্ঠ নেতৃত্বকে যার ৭মার্চের দ্ব্যর্থহীন বজ্রকণ্ঠে তেজস্বী ভাষণের মাধ্যমে জাতি ঐক্যবদ্ধ হয় এবং আরো স্মরণ করি তাঁর যোগ্য প্রতিনিধি যাদের নির্দেশনা অভিভাবকহীন জাতিকে ৯মাস ধরে যুদ্ধ করতে সঠিক পথে চালিত করেছিল ।
If economic emancipation(মুক্তি) and a pluralistic democratic dispensation(বিধান) were the twin objectives of our liberation struggle it becomes a day also of taking stock of what we have achieved and where we might have done better than we actually have.
যেহেতু আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের দুটি উদ্দেশ্য ছিল অর্থনৈতিক মুক্তি ও বহুত্ববাদী গণতান্ত্রিক রাষ্ট্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করা তাই এখন সময় এসেছে আমাদের ঝুলিতে কি কি অর্জিত হয়েছে তা দেখার এবং সেখানে আমরা দেখতে পাই আমরা যেটি অর্জন করেছি তা থেকে অবশ্যই আরো বেশি অর্জন করতে হবে।

আমরা নিম্ন মধ্যয় আয়ের দেশে পরিণত হয়েছি এবং ১৯৭১সালের প্রায় ৩গুণ জনসংখ্যার জন্য খাদ্যস্বয়সম্পূর্ণতা অর্জনে সক্ষম হয়েছি।

However, it is in the field of politics where fractious attitude has kept the people divided on national issues.
যাহোক , রাজনৈতিক ক্ষেত্রের বিভাজন মানসিকতা জনগণকে জাতীয় ইস্যুতে বিভাজিত করে রেখেছে।
Our democratic institutions remain vulnerable to extraneous pressure and if elections are the index of the political adulthood of a nation, then the recent union parishad elections would suggest that we have a long way to go.
আমাদের গণতান্ত্রিক প্রতিষ্ঠানসমূহকে দেশি-বিদেশি চাপ সামলাতে হয় ; নির্বাচনকে যদি একটি জাতির রাজনৈতিক পরিপক্কতার সূচক ধরা হয় তাহলে সাম্প্রতিক ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ নির্বাচনসমূহ ইঙ্গিত করে আমাদের এখনও অনেক দূর যেতে হবে ।
It cannot be lost on our leaders that whatever might be our shortcomings(অবহেলা/ বিচ্যুতি), those can only be overcome by shedding our differences and coming together on vital issues of national concern.
আমাদের ভুল ত্রুটি যাই থাকুক না কেন আমাদের রাজনৈতিক নেতাদের ভুল বুঝলে চলবে না কেননা এইসব ভুল-ত্রুটিকে শুধু মতদ্বৈততা দূর করার মাধ্যমেই নিরসন করা সম্ভব এবং জাতীয় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্বার্থে সকলকে ঐকবদ্ধভাবে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে।
